How To Choose a Production Company

Whether or not you select Dan Sperling Video & Film for your next production, there are 7 factors you'll want to consider before contracting with a production company.

1.) A video production doesn't have to be outrageously expensive or extremely complicated to be effective. Very often, you simply need a video that communicates your ideas and concepts to your audience in an engaging manner. Many times, a very modest budget works nicely with a direct, unpretentious delivery or by compensating with additional creativity.

2.) The best way to insure that your project communicates exactly what you want to say, is to hire a production company with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Once you've narrowed down the field to production companies that are capable of delivering the quality that you're looking for, this is the most important issue to consider.

To have a project that meets your expectations, your video producer must be on the "same page" as you in terms of purpose, concept, cost, and deadline. You don't want to find yourself in the same position as the exasperated baked goods customer demanding a refund, "Of course, it's a wonderful apple pie that you've made, but I asked for blueberry!"

Dan Sperling Video & Film Productions takes pride in our excellent client relations and makes maintaining clear client communications a top priority. During the initial client meeting, we make sure that we fully understand your audience, the information you need to communicate, how entertaining you feel your product needs to be, what future uses you may have for the material, and what the product should communicate about your company in a general sense.

Mr. Sperling will make many creative suggestions how best to achieve your purposes, such as what structure the video should take, what concept(s) or vehicle might best convey your message, and what format the video should employ. He will ensure that our company is on the same page as you, not only in terms of concept and execution, but also in terms of time and budget expectations. He'll send you email updates whenever there are project developments you should know about. Rest assured that with the great communication skills that you'll find at Dan Sperling Video & Film, you will always get a professional, polished, and cost-effective production.

3.) A video production company should be able to demonstrate a track record of success. Having a long list of more than satisfied clients demonstrates that a production company can consistently produce successful videos and films on time and within budget. Having a list of clients who insist on writing wonderful things about our company says that so many of our clients aren't just more than satisfied with our work, they're thrilled!. We have a long list of happy clients who happen to have some wonderful things to say about us. Click here for customer quotes.

4.) A video production company should be up-to-date on the most current, state-of-the-art video technology. Having state-of-the-art options for your project allow you to make a video, film or commercial that will be as polished as any Hollywood production. Offering production on the best technology available, for example, shooting video in High Definition, also ensures that your video will have a long shelf life when high definition production becomes the norm in America. In addition, offering a wide variety of production options ensures that you will get the best fit of production format to meet your budget.

At Dan Sperling Video & Film Productions, we understand the importance of keeping abreast of the latest technology, and offer a wide variety of broadcast quality options for field acquisition and editing. We offer production on Beta SP, Digital Betacam, HDTV (High Definition Television), DVC Pro, and 16mm and 35mm film. In addition, we use state-of-the-art nonlinear editing, sound, and animation software to ensure that the production quality of your project meets the highest standards.

5.) It's to your advantage when a video production company has a wide range of experience. Being able to demonstrate success in producing a wide variety of projects shows that a company has the technical expertise to successfully produce in different genres and to meet the expectations of diverse audiences.

We believe our experience demonstrates versatility in our ability to communicate messages. Working with a diverse clientele shows that we can consistently think "outside the box". Our fifteen years of experience also comes in handy for effectively solving any problems that may arise on your project, because chances are, we've dealt with them before.

6.) Your video production company should offer you a free consultation. We look at an initial consultation as an opportunity for you to audition your potential producer to see if he or she really knows his stuff. After all, a large part of what you're paying for is the knowledge, experience and expertise of your video producer. You'll want to check that person out and see what kind of ideas he or she can lend to your project.

It will give you an idea as to the creativity level that your producer will be operating at, and it will also give you a pretty good indication if you and your producer have the chemistry to work well together. A free, in-depth consultation allows you to consider your options up-front and pick the production company that represents the best match for your project.

Dan Sperling Video & Production offers a friendly, free consultation to discuss your project. Mr. Sperling welcomes this as an opportunity to hopefully show you that our ideas, approach and expertise are even better than our esteemed competitors. To set up a free consultation, you can email us at dsvideo@comcast.net or call us at 770-978-6070 or toll free at 800-578-2770 outside the Atlanta area.

7.) Your project should be coordinated and overseen by an experienced producer who is in charge of the final product. A lot of production companies rely on an "assembly line" approach to filmmaking, which very often is effective. Using this approach, your project is accomplished in stages with one person taking responsible for scriptwriting, another for casting, another for shooting, editing, and so forth. The danger here is that no one individual has ultimate responsibility for the final outcome, for the final look and feel of your product.

We believe that this method is not as consistently effective as having a single individual who is completely responsible for all the major decisions involved in your project, and who takes charge of every phase of production. We believe that this "single vision" approach produces a more cohesive, unified and integrated video.

At Dan Sperling Video & Production, you will be working with Mr. Sperling, an extremely experienced producer who has over twenty-five years in the industry, working in every realm of filmmaking including writing, shooting, producing, directing, and editing. As your producer/director, Dan Sperling takes final responsibility for every project, overseeing all the details and making the major decisions, including writing or overseeing the final screenplay, and supervising the final edit. Complete, personal care is taken and given on every project we undertake, something which can be lost when working with larger production companies that may compartmentalize responsibility.
